Well, we all age and any anti aging claim is unachievable. We are on a one way street from birth. But remember, not everyone gets to experience aging. In our culture we worship youth. We are bombarded via mass media with unrealistic images of youth. But as we age, we realize that youth as cherished as it is, contains many veils and a deeper understanding of self can be achieved only through the aging process.
It is as if life saves lessons that only time can reveal.
There is a great deal of honor in aging and the experience can be one of the greatest life has to offer. Life is always a matter of perspective.
But the aging process can be slowed. All of the changes of aging are influenced by what we do and don’t eat.
Here are some general strategies:
- Fresh is best (unprocessed is better)
A diet high in fresh produce is associated with a healthier and longer life. - Reduce energy-dense foods
Exchange foods that are concentrated kilojoules (so-called “energy-dense” foods) for foods that have fewer kilojoules. - Slow and steady wins the race
Eat foods that deliver nutrients at a slow pace, are less processed, low GI, and high in fibre. - Make the most of every mouthful
Substitute empty-kilojoules foods with nutrient-dense foods. - Phytochemicals follow the rainbow
Fill your diet with every bright color of the rainbow to maximize phytochemical consumption. - Choose the right stuff
Eat the “good” fats, proteins and carbohydrates and the most bio-available. Reduce foods containing simple sugars and replace refined products with wholegrain equivalents. - Be prepared
Cooking less and eating more raw food helps food retain nutrients - Harness the super-food
Eating berries, cruciferous vegetables, legumes, whole nuts and seeds, probiotic yogurt, all fruits, dark chocolate and green tea can have a positive effect on health and aging.
