It's the Fiber

Imagine eating 100 grams of fiber a day as you hunt and gather from all manners of roots, berries, leaves and plants. Now, realize that the average American eats about 8 grams of fiber a day while they work their way through a week. It was the fiber that helped our ancestors to stay thin and healthy.

Of course all that walking around and running from “things” that eat you helped too.

Did you know?

  • Can actually prevent obesity
  • Prevent chronic disease of aging
  • Slow the rate at which food enters your bloodstream
  • increase the speed at which food exits your body
  • Keep your blood sugar in balance
  • Lower you Cholesterol
  • Eliminate toxins while reducing you appetite

Fiber is a great ally.  While lowering you blood sugar as much as some diabetes medications, it lower cholesterol. too  But that is not all.  It promotes weight loss.  We can all use a little help with the battle of the bulge.  Think how wonderful it would be to eat your way to thin.  Fiber is that way.

Additionally, certain types of fiber act as a switching molecule.  They turn on and off genes that you want to control – like turning on an anticancer gene and turning off colon cancer.  A noted reduction in the rich of colon cancer by a 1/3 but even a greater reduction in breast cancer- 40%, all by eating more fiber.

Forget the bran, keep the raisins!

Ok… you are not going to need the 100 grams a day that a hunter gatherer consumed, but you will need more than the daily average of 8 grams.  30 to 50 grams will make a significant  difference and it is an attainable goal. To my surprise, bran (wheat fiber) is mostly insoluble and doesn’t get digested, It is not an recommended choice for adding fiber to your diet.  Not to mention all the gluten intolerance happening today from eating wheat… so think SOLUBLE FIBER.

  • Fruits
  • vegetables
  • beans
  • nuts
  • seeds
  • whole grains

These sources of soluble fiber are easily metabolized by your digestive systems bacteria.  That process is where the benefits of eating fiber begin.  Remember, soluble fiber helps lower cholesterol, lower blood sugar and insulin while preventing cancer causing genes.  And by balancing hormone levels soluble fiber removes excess estrogen and reduces the risk of breast cancer.  You will get vitamins and minerals from soluble fiber.  Soluble fiber is where it is at… eat it.
